First, I show appreciation for John Sowa’s contribution regarding the understanding of homeopathic medicine. There is an aspect to the use of trace elements as a means of preserving health and bringing the body back into a healthy state.
There is detail to why and how and what and where and when and who and why a trace element would perturb some balance that has developed within the mind body system. This detail could be captured in a way that extends the classical science into a science of process depending on stratified ontological models.
We know that “we” humans have a physical body, and as part of this physical body various centers, producing thought, emotions and movement. The literature on these “centers” goes back thousands of years. The science literature has developed a different way of looking at nature, based on scientific reductionism and the numeric model. The difficulties in bringing these two approaches have been well documented and can be easily observed through the use of awareness.
I suggest that, at least, two replicator mechanisms are involved. Genetics is a well-developed field of modern “mechanistic science”. It is controversial to suggest that the core of the open problems in the science of genetics has to do with the non-algorithmic part of the gene’s expression. We suggest that this controversy is largely caused by the polemics that develop to protect mechanistic science from an exposure of it limitations. The way forward, is to balance and extend engineering with a complexity science that has terms like “endophysics” and “exophysics” (use Goggle to investigation these terms). If we are able to depend on the genetic body to bring un-balance back to a healthy balance if not inhibited, then disease is always treatable by creating proper im-balances. In the case of Noni juice and other alternative medicines, people have a belief. The belief is that a treatment has value. This belief is one aspect of the behavior of the genetic body.
The brain/mind system can help us understand the behavior of our genetic body if we avoid two extremes. At one extreme is our letting the thinking center take over without question. The other extreme is in rejecting the thinking center all together.
As for Noni, a fruit juice that is said to have wonderful cell generation capability, the explanation as to how and why, when and where, etc; is at least beyond our current bio-chemistry,
At least the regulatory institutions like the FDA have not been able to find anything that Noni is dangerous with Noni used in the dosages normally used.
