Immunology is fascinating!

I am currently reading the work of Timmis and others in the area of artificial immune systems and it seems very interesting in the context of what I am doing.  My intuition suggests that we apply a theory of cyber attack mechanics to the problem of universal countermeasures in the context of these countermeasures being the "antibodies" in an artificial immune system.

Theoretical immunology includes not only animal but also plant immunological systems, and the abstraction from these natural systems a set of principles.

Perhaps “design principles” is the proper phase.  In any case, these principles start with a 2x2 framework with enumerated descriptors:

{ self, not-self }

{ endo-physics, exo-physics }

The relevant literature starts with Burnet’s clonal selection.

There is a rough equivalence to Adi’s two aspect sets (see Part I, Adi structured ontology) which he calls boundary {open, closed} and engagement {self, engaged}.

The 2x2 framework sets the stage for the introduction of a set of elementary processes, which for Adi number as three and are enumerated in the set:

{assignment, manifestation, containment}.

Adi’s 4x8 framework for substructure is created by taking the power set, the set of subsets, over the set of three elementary processes to produce an enumeration of 8 cases.  The result is the matrix Q.  (see Part I, Adi structured ontology)

What happens next is a constraint on the combinatorial span of the 32 elements of Q into Q-stems, and then into systems frames.  (see Part II, Adi structured ontology).  For Adi, his original interests cumulate in a third level of abstraction that is about the formation of social expressions about a cultural world.

The generative methodology is to be created based on the formal description of Adi’s three-layer structural ontology.  This ontology has been used in text retrieval and content management systems since 1986.  Until recently; however, its significance was not appreciated.

The development of generative methodology is insured by its deep connectivity to the best of natural science, and by computational encoding of the structured ontology as part of Human-centric Information Production (HIP) software.
