How to create proper provenance about original oils sold before an artist becomes well know is one of the issues that the Foundation for Creative Extension and Acquisition is interested in framing.

Kelly is preparing to move South as the Winter sets in over Taos New Mexico.

The discussions we have been having over the past three days have been about the nature of a creative artists living in a society were certain types of economically aggressive individuals end up taking away from the artist the works of art that he or she has created.  The notion of ownership is immediately involved. It is well understand that perhaps the best works of art are created from a state of mind where ownership has been set aside.

The paintings, that Kelly paints, are not owned by the artist while his is painting them.  He has talked about the ownership has being “of” or “from” the Great Spirit.

The phenomenon of an artist being swindled has come up over and over [1].  At one point one might say that the artist is responsible for not being treated unfairly.  However the nature of swindling is grounded in misunderstanding and economic pressures.  Kelly’s books often address the teachings of the Warrior’s Way, and some aspects of these teaching address the art of stocking.

Foundation for Creative Extension and Acquisition that those who have original paintings by “A. Kelly Pruitt”, A.K. Prueitt”, “ThunderBow” make an assessment regarding whether the Acquisition of this painting was done in a way that fully honors the principles that the artist has lived by.

The Warrior’s Way and Native American “Old Way” have may inter connections. As Don Trent Jacobs and Jessica Jacobs-Spencer has said:

Spirituality: This refers to a genuine awareness of our great and mysterious connections with all aspects of the universe, both seen and unseen and includes a realization that there is a sacred force behind these interconnections. In Indian country, the Medicine Wheel teaches us that we are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual creatures and that each aspect is connected. Spirituality is more about the concern for great questions regarding life and death than about specific answers, which is the realm of the great religions. In American Indian thinking about spirituality, the great mystery about life is part of what makes it sacred. This kind of thinking honors all religions but cannot understand why people have been tortured or murdered if they do not choose one or the other. It allows us to consider that trees and animals may have souls and deserve respect.

Our mainstream culture does not help one see the connections with all aspects of the universe, and often times individual get into a survival mode where swindling is an attractive behavior.

This artist is involved in living a life based on a spiritual teaching.  His life has been a light in a sometimes dark world.  He has taught a beautiful teaching, but more importantly his life, his walk, his actions, and thoughts exemplify all that is good, all that is love, all that is unselfishness.  But he has done this in a world where some people have been attracted to the Swindler Way.

An example is only one example of a pattern, repeated over and over again.  Kelly’s life has seen perhaps as many as 1,500 canvas literally stolen, and perhaps another 1,500 given away for one reason or the other.  Only about 2,000 have been sold at what would be considered a reasonable price.

This phenomenon is not a-typical of the life of an artist.

The Foundation for Creative Extension and Acquisition is dedicated to developing language about the issues related to the creative process and the acquisition of product developed from that process.

As Kelly heads South and I button up for the Winter here at the Indian Hills Inn, we look forward to the new adventures.

[1] Consignment laws have been developed to protect the artist from a practice of holding works of art on consignment when the artist has expressed an interest in re-obtaining the works.  To not pay for a work of art that has been sold while on consignment is deemed to be not merely a violation of civil law but in fact a violation of criminal law.   These laws have evolved from laws against fraud and swindling.
