Don:
As Paul’s points out, it is this 'semio-sphere" that I associate with the "appreciative field".
In practice I have found that it can be invoked, even created, by having people say who they are and why they are here. This information seems to trigger the rest of the field.
Paul has talked with you about the GSA/NSF monthly meeting hosted by Susan Turnbull.
In Susan’s sessions, she insists on doing this even if there are 60 people in the room. She calls it "Who's here and who is missing" this is a very quick and simple way to invoke the field.
Maybe simple techniques like this with visual images of people can invoke the field in virtual settings. The key though, as you said is bringing the necessity of invoking this field into people's awareness so that it is addressed.
