This note is explorative.  Any specific detail can be altered given a need.  A “process development methodology” is being followed based on separately modeling control mechanisms, lines of influence and social appreciation.

Within this small group we might talk about what would be the issues that a project would face IF the project where to focus on the synthesis of a new academic discipline that subsumed some elements from a large number of disciplines.

ecological psychology

evolutionary psychology

knowledge representation

inference representation

ergonomics theory and practice

cognitive neuroscience theory and practice

social network theory

sense making theory and practice

cultural anthropology

biosemiotics or memetics theory

memetic technology

Areas of application are in understanding

1) cultural expression involved in national health care processes

2) cultural expression involved in educational processes

3) cultural expression involved in risk and crisis management

The core problem is how to start a process of integration of these disciplines.  The required integration involves the development of a science of knowledge systems curriculum as well as specific first deliverables.

One might model the supporting disciplines as metaphorically similar to biological populations within an environmental ecosystem; like populations of fishes in the Great Lakes.  We could, for example, gather together five or ten core articles representing each of these twelve as cognitive econiches.   Latent semantic indexing, and two other similar text understanding technologies can be used (quickly and easily) to create a topological map over the subject matter indicators that we as a community agree forms a useful "upper taxonomy" in the sense discussed at:

Orb technology is easy to use and free.  The knowledge representation community is able to design human language interfaces to the document repository, and to re-represent "memetic" expressions within and between elements of the repository.

From this work we should be able to create a model of memetic expression within those professional and academic organizations where some members of these organizations are willing to expose communications within the twelve disciplines and between disciplines.

The resulting structure might be something like the Community’s Glass Bead Game.

We can easily stand up this document repository, and the Orb tools, within a Groove space and align the Upper Taxonomy with a donated service from SchemaLogic so that an Advisory Body can isolate exactly these terms where terminological reconciliation effort needs to occur.  The reconciliation efforts would then allow the Advisory Body to offer a common consensus of authority to issues that DARPA and NIMA funding seems to be missing.

The work will be publicly developed and communicated, restoring some of the trust in the technology evaluation component supporting government funding of advanced Research, Development and Deployment (RD&D)

I have estimated that around 500K could be usefully expended to create this Advisory Body, and that the Advisory Body could be formed and functioning with four weeks given a 6 month budget at that level of funding.

However, other routes are being investigated to raise the initial money needed to synthesize these scholarly domains into a single disciplined approach towards modeling the cultural expression.
