Concept of creative
extension/acquisition: In addition to the original image,
one can zoom into an image to see detail.
This inspection of detail can occur in our studio in Taos, or with
special software that we license to interior decorators, frame shops, or other
distributors.
In the future the Virtual Museum System concept, MUDs [1],
or VPNs [2],
will allow a client to inspect the detail of a Painting within a Painting without
downloading the entire image. Allowing
a download of the entire high-resolution image will risk the copyright. The copyright issue is similar to the
copyright on a song performed in public.
The issue is one that simply has to be made clear.
All authorized reproductions (called creative extensions) will
be accompanied with provenance authentication.
The nature of the provenance might be numbering with an authentication
mark, and may include certain dates such as the date the reproduction is
created. We have talked extensively
about this, and have felt that the word “print” is not precise. In the digital reproduction, there are fine
alterations that are imposed on the image and then approved by the Foundation.
The original oil painting can be extended by selecting a
region and a magnification (or reduction).
This identifies a Painting
within a Painting.
We allow licensed interior decorators the right to select and
pull the image through this window and onto either paper or canvas.
Regions of the image, as well as the complete image, can be
ordered printed on canvas or paper only with permission from the
Foundation. This right to authorize the
reproduction is an essential element of the business process.

Images 2 and 3: Two regions from the
original are separated and extended to produce new images
The two images 2 and 3 are taken from image 1. The process of extending has not been
completed, as the background still needs some correcting.
Any creative extension process cannot be attempted, and then
used in a commerce fashion, unless authorized by the Foundation.
Authorization rules are developed by the Foundation. These rules are designed to allow a positive
creative extension of the works of the artist.
A creative extension occurs at a specific time and with
specific agreed on constraints and conditions.
The details of each extension are recorded as “authorization
provenance”. The authorization
provenance is recorded as a document.
Any reproduction of the extended image must, by agreement, be
accompanied by an authorization mark (the Three Rivers mark) and by a numbering
of the reproductions.
The numbering is unlimited, and this unlimited agreement is
designated using an “n” for non-specified integer. {So, for example, “24/n” would be placed on the 24th
reproduction of a specific image. }
