I am in a set of talks with an
agency of the Federal government.
They bought software from me to
do knowledge mapping.
They want to involve me in the
free flow of ideas relating to using knowledge mapping for understanding
ecosystems.
But if I go free form with them I
am giving them and my competitors a royalty free license to use my ideas in
products that compete with mine.
Specifically if I tell them what
features or capabilities I am going to add to my program, others who have more
resources may preempt my contribution and take it as their own.
So we are deadlocked and unable
to move forward.
PS. If I create an idea and
product on my own, someone else who did also created the same idea and product can
claim it is theirs if they have more money for lawyers than I do. The
whole process of patents, especially software patents is corrupt, because he
who has the most money for lawyers wins, irrespective of the truth.
