Notational Standards for Ontology referential bases (Orbs)

Ken and Amnon,

One day in the not so distant future, we will have the organization framework to the BCNGroup set up to support the new Orb standard.   (One can only expect.. *s).

The Orb standard supports ontological modeling and the use of these models within the differential ontology framework

The standard is developed based on our insights into why the W3C standard must fail to achieve widespread use.  This insight is marshaled by one’s objective observations about the complicated and dysfunctional nature of W3C applications, and the difficulty that common people have with the terminology and conventions.

Right now, we are in a position to usefully identify a small group of XML experts who can learn about the Orb notation and theory from me and can afford to spend time developing an Orb Application Development Environment or Orb-ADE.  Sorry to make up new terminology here but we have to get this process past the blockage we have.  We may be very close to private investment, but I have to show a product now.

Stu, if there is a group (2 – 5) in Austin right now who will meet with me and work on this project, I will drive to Austin and meet with the group for a few days before I go to Taos to work with my father in our family art gallery there – perhaps I am meet a wealthy investor for the virtual art museum concept.

I am looking for very experienced individuals who can respond to the present software coding needs, in exchange for a stake in this new standard.  Can you query the Austin XML group in one of the e-forums?

Also, it is clear to a few of us that the Orb notational system and standard data encoding format – the Orb triple – can be considered as an extension of formalism based on foundational theory in mathematics

So the Orb notation and the data-encoding standard we are proposing is universal, like arithmetic, and being discovered by more than one or a few people.  It is not owned by anyone.

Our challenges are these:

1)       How to manage the communication about the Orb standard,

2)       How to make the notational system complete and extendable, and

3)       How to show that applications built using this Orb standard perform the role of ontology mediation of information exchanges?

We are a small group now, and I am in the center of this … but hopefully before long there will be independence and the Orb standard will be well known.  At this point in the hopefully near future, the work that I will be doing is in extending the data mining (Orb convolution) theory and practice.  I look forward to this time.

My problem is that I can program computers (pretty well) or I can work on the fundamental design elements of ontological modeling.

I simply cannot do both, it involves two different parts of my being that I cannot get to occur at the same time.  I need a software engineer, or several, working under my direction so that jointly the team can produce new and revolutionary capabilities.

At this time we have no revenue to compensate for coding time, however I have a promise of a 12,000 contract from DS (cannot disclose name as yet) for an application based on differential ontology design.  DS and I are quite advanced in the design specs, and I estimate about 100 hours of code work would deliver this 12K contract.   This can be done within four weeks if two to three people work on this full or part time.

Any product developed by Orb-ADE will have the following specific properties:

A) The backend will be the Intellidimension RDF Gateway product

A free personal edition of the Gateway can be downloaded from www.intellidimesnion.com

B) Ontological models will exist at three levels of organizations as discussed in the PowerPoints at:

http://www.ontologystream.com/gFT/home.htm

The bottom level is the set of those “scoped ontology individuals” that have become the figure in the figure ground relationship that our visualization paradigm is hoping to demonstrate.

See Karl Pribram’s 1991 book, Brain and Perception. Or read some of the chapters in our on line book

http://www.bcngroup.org/area3/pprueitt/book.htm

C) the Orb-ADE will license Intellidimension and likely several other capabilities, including Visual Text and Readware.

Amnon and Ken, I address this note to you because of all of the technologies in the RoadMap, your two technologies and Intellidimension are the most vital.  They are the most vital if one needs to see the complete paradigm where natural language expression by people working on incident management is aggregated up into a sequence of scoped ontology individuals through the use of the top and middle DOF (differential ontology framework) ontology.

However, it is important to note that the Orb-ADE is being designed to instantiate as the DS prototype .. and this prototype does not use a semantic extraction component.  So our immediate task, the one I am seeking immediate coding help for, is greatly simpler that the full Roadmap indicates:

http://www.bcngroup.org/area1/2005beads/GIF/RoadMap.htm

The full Roadmap is designed to address the shortcoming that IT and the W3C standards (and the business practices of contractors) have jointly created in the various IT modernization projects in DHS.    The DS prototype is far simpler.

As we put the team together to produce the DS application, we will develop this Orb-ADE in the simplest possible fashion.  Then the DS application will have a support development environment to earn new revenues for DS.  DS will have something very simple and elegant, and we will have the first vertical application produced from a development environment supported by an Orb Standard and mathematical and scientific literatures.  The revolution, started in 1991,  will have become noticeable.

As my wife Pat suggests to me, .. this is the beginning of an interesting story.  Well, not exactly the beginning but it is the beginning of a new chapter.

Soon, the very small financial requirements that we need, based on where we are now, will be meet by private investment.  We are blessed to be in a position to take the proper next steps over the next 6 – 8 weeks.  Going to Austin to work with 2 – 5 others on this project is what I hope happens next.
