Paul,

Thanks for sending me a copy of the roadmap.  I have read the document and found it interesting.  Unfortunately I am no longer involved in work related to this. However, it may be helpful to you to contact some others. I recommend that you discuss this further with Dr. Kent Myers of SAIC, Doug Lenat of CycCorp, and/or Ken Ford at the IHMC in Florida. Thanks,

Brian

Advanced Systems & Concepts/SAIC

Brian,

We feel that Ontology mediated interactions between humans is a key element of advanced concepts that need to be developed by vendors and provided to the federal government.  If your group at SAIC re-focuses on ontology type solutions in this business space we would be pleased to pick up the discussion with you.

You make an interesting suggestion to send this Roadmap to Doug Lenat.

Version 7.5 is at:

http://www.bcngroup.org/area1/2005beads/GIF/RoadMap.htm

Our sense has been that Doug is deeply committed to the First School of Semantic Science and yet in the past I have seen him get close to letting go of the conjecture that common sense as experienced by humans is impossible as an expression of first order logic.

The perceived failures of AI lead one to consider the Second School.

We will discuss a contact with him within the committee.

Dr Myers has supported proposals from the BCNGroup in the past.

Dr Ford's work at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition and his work with the American Association for Artificial Intelligence would seem to indicate that he would not be interested in a rejection of many of the core concepts related to machine replacement of human intelligence.

The concept map technology at IHMC could be used to visualize the situational ontology that we indicate is useful in our roadmap.

However, again; the BCNGroup can only suggest why the Second School may eventual, when funded, begin the produce results where the First School is still failing.  We appeal to others to understand that funding seems to have again and again escaped us.

I have forwarded this note to his office in hopes that he will review the Roadmap and initiate a discussion with the BCNGroup.

Thank you again for the suggestions.

Paul
